According to a report by The Illuminerdi former Jedi padawan Barriss Offee is set to feature in the Disney+ ‘Ahsoka’ series. They claim to have a source that says Lucasfilm are looking to cast an Asian woman in the 20-30 years old age range for the role. Consider this as just a rumour because, while they don’t just make things up like We Got This Covered, The Illuminerdi don’t have a 100% record with their “sources”.
Although it is just a rumour the inclusion of Barriss is the series would make sense as she is very important to Ahsoka’s story. First appearing in ‘Attack Of The Clones’ the character played a prominent role in ‘The Clone Wars’. Barriss was a young padawan and had a close bond with Ahsoka. She eventually became disillusioned by the Jedi order and believing that they were the cause of the Clone War and had lost their way she set up a bombing of the Jedi temple.
Barriss went on to frame Ahsoka for the crime which killed numerous people and the Jedi Council fell for it. Anakin Skywalker eventually proved Ahsoka’s innocence and Offee’s guilt but the damage was done and Ahsoka walked away from the Jedi Order.
Dave Filoni had original planned to kill her off but changed his mind because he had plans for the character but the last time we saw Barriss was when she confessed to her crimes at the end of ‘The Clone Wars’ season five. Over the years fans have been expecting her to reappear with the most common theory being that she will return as an Imperial Inquisitor but this has yet to happen. Now this casting rumour for a Filoni produced series might signal that we are actually going to see the next chapter in Barriss Offee’s story.
But please keep in mind that this is just a rumour and it has one major thing going against it. The age range it is reported that they are looking at seem to be about twenty years too young for the character. Barriss Offee is a Mirialan and they may age at a different rate to Ahsoka’s Togruta race but dramatically you would expect the characters to be the same age and ‘The Mandalorian’ and spin-off shows are set about thirty years after ‘Revenge Of The Sith’.
At the moment there still is no information on when ‘Ahsoka’ will go into production so we most likely won’t have any answers until 2023 at the earliest. It is still thought the main focus of the series will revolve around Thrawn and Ezra Bridger.
