Lucasfilm has confirmed via a tweet that Amandla Stenberg will have the lead role in the upcoming Star Wars show ‘The Acolyte’. There have been rumours of the casting since the end of last year.

‘The Acolyte’ will be the earliest live-action show on the Star Wars timeline with the action set a century before the events of ‘Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace’. The series will take place during the High Republic era, when the Jedi were at their strongest and the Sith were believed to be extinct.

Leslye Headland (‘Russian Doll’) is acting as showrunner for the series, which is expected to be dark in tone to other Star Wars properties, but little is known about the plot. The High Republic era has been established by Lucasfilm Publishing across novels and comic books.
