Sony are creating a Karate Kid cinematic universe by combining the original franchise and the 2010 remake.
A new film untitled film, which will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle and is set for a 13th December 2024 release, will star both Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. The two will be reprising their original roles, making this a fusion of everything that has come before.
The pair announced, via YouTube, that a worldwide search has begun to find the new Chinese Karate Kid.
Chan’s one film failed to launch its own franchise, where as Macchio starred in three of the four original films as well as five seasons of the spin-off show, Cobra Kai, with a sixth on the way.
This latest iteration will shift the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor.
There has been no mention of how much Cobra Kai will be integrated into the new film.
