Sony has found the new Karate Kid.
Ben Wang, star of American Born Chinese, is the latest actor to take on the mantle of The Karate Kid.
Wang was picked after a worldwide search that saw 10,000 submission on the first day, with insiders saying he demonstrated his deep connection to the character. The studio wanted a Chinese lead and Wang is fluent in Mandarin and highly skilled across many forms of martial arts, including karate, wing chun/kung fu, gumdo, kempo and taekwondo.
The film will also star Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, uniting the two halves of Karate Kid franchise, and will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle.
