Glen Powell has signed on to lead the new adaptation of The Running Man that is to be written and directed by Edgar Wright.
This is the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel written under pseudonym Richard Bachman. The story is set in a dystopian United States during the year 2025, in which the nation’s economy is in ruins and world violence is rising and follows protagonist Ben Richards as he participates in the reality show The Running Man, in which contestants win money by evading a team of hitmen sent to kill them.
The 1987 adaptation starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and directed by Paul Michael Glaser.
This will be Powell’s first action lead but he previously co-starred in Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick. He also had a hit with rom-com Anyone But You and will next be seen in Universal’s Twisters.
