Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later hasn’t started shooting yet but a director has already been lined up for the second film in the announced trilogy.

The Marvels and Candyman director Nia DaCosta will direct the film from an Alex Garland script.

Boyle is looking to shoot his film later this year and Sony want to shoot the follow up straight after so have moved quickly to get a director in place to ensure a smooth transition.

The films will serve as a continuation of the story started in Boyle and Garland’s 28 Days Later (2002). Original star Cillian Murphy will be back as executive producer and may appear in some compacity. There has previously been one sequel with 28 Weeks Later starring Jeremy Renner being released in 2007.
