Horror maestro Mike Flanagan is in talks with Blumhouse and Universal to take the reins of the next Exorcist film.

Flanagan would take over the director chair from David Gordon Green, who relaunched the franchise with Exorcist: Believer last year but exited from the follow-up earlier this year. Blumhouse’s original plan was to make a new trilogy but it is unclear if this is still the case.

According to The Insneider Flanagan will have license to “do his own thing with the franchise” following the critical failure of Green’s film.

Flanagan is known for a series of Netflix horror show like The Fall Of The House Of Usher and a number of Stephen King adaptations including Doctor Sleep.
