The Russos Are In Talks To Direct The Next Two ‘Avengers’ Films

Although it had been recently denied by both parties, it looks like the Russo brothers may be returning to Marvel to direct the next two instalments of the Avengers franchise.

The pair have entered talks with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios to return to the MCU for the first time since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The fifth Avengers film had original been announced as The Kang Dynasty with Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) directing but that fell apart when Jonathan Majors was charge with assault. Cretton walked away from the project when it became clear it would need to be retooled.

With a 1st May, 2026, release date already booked, the pressure was on Marvel to get a new director in place and it was rumoured that the offer went out to Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) but he turned it down.

The Russos have made no secret of the fact that they would be interested in adapting Secret Wars to the screen and that just so happens to be the already announced sixth Avengers film. If they do return, it will allow them to build the spine of the MCU again. This is something that they achieved during their first stint at Marvel when they took over the Captain America franchise. Secret Wars has a release date of 7th May, 2027.

With ComicCon happening next weekend, we are like to find out the future of the Avengers films sooner rather than later.
