James Wan Remaking ‘Creature From The Black Lagoon’

Saw and The Conjuring director James Wan is developing a remake of Creature From The Black Lagoon which he will both direct and produce.

Wan has pitched a new take on the character to Universal and the search is now on for writer.

Wan’s take is described as being a grounded, modernized retelling that will lean into visceral horror, while still paying respect to the original. 

The original film, directed by Jack Arnold, was released in 1954 and spawned to sequels. The character was the last of the classic Universal monsters and the original film, directed by Jack Arnold, was released in 1954 and spawned to sequels.

There have been a number of attempts to bring the character back, most recently as part of Universal’s failed Dark Universe, but nothing has made it to the screen.

This will be Wan’s first film as a director since his production company, Atomic Monster, merged with Blumhouse.
