Warner Bros. has quietly been putting plans together to bring George R.R. Martins fantasy world on the big screen.
The studio and their television subsidiary HBO have so far resisted making a film set in the Game Of Thrones universe but there has been talk about it in the past. Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss originally wanted to end the series with a film and Martin has been talking about making one since 2014.
Until now the franchise has been treated as a prestige television property with HBO following up the original series with the prequel House Of The Dragon and they have another prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms coming next year. There are also rumoured to be numerous unannounced series in development. This news of a film could mean the studio has changed their plans for the franchise.
So far there has been nothing released that has moved the story forward and the budgets associated with film could be a way to bring back the surviving characters from Game Of Thrones.
