‘Forbidden Planet’ Remake Being Developed

Warner Bros. have secured the rights to remake the science fiction classic Forbidden Planet.

The original film was a loose reimagining of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Set in the 23rd Century, a starship crew goes to investigate the silence of a distant planet’s colony, only to find just two survivors, a powerful robot, and the deadly secret of a lost civilization. The film was notable for being an ahead of its time piece of science fiction and featuring Leslie Nielsen’s most famous dramatic performance, decades before he became a comedy legend.

The new film is being written by comic book master Brian K. Vaughan, known for creating Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Saga and Paper Girls. Vaughan also has a large amount of television experience, having worked on shows like Lost and Under The Dome. Emma Watts, who has worked on the likes of I, Robot, Alita: Battle Angel, The Martian, Maze Runner and Avatar, is producing.
