Following on from the news that Scott Foley, who played the killer in Scream 3, is returning for Scream 7, Matthew Lillard has announced via Instagram that he is also back.

Lillard played Stu Macher, one of the two Ghostface killers, in the original film. In recent years, it has been a fan theory that the character survived being stabbed multiple times and having a TV dropped on their head. Evidence for this is that Lillard can be seen as an extra during a party scene in Scream 2 and in Scream VI it was mentioned that the character could still be alive.

Skeet Ulrich, who played the other killer in the 1996 film, returned as a vision in in the previous two films but there is no news on how Lillard will return.

The film will see Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Foley return to their roles from previous films while Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale and Mark Consuelos join the cast.

Scream 7 will be released on 27th February 2026.
