The star of The Penguin, Colin Farrell, is maybe swapping playing a DC villain for a DC hero by entering talks to lead Sgt. Rock. The World War Two action movie will be directed by Luca Guadagnino.
Daniel Craig had been rumoured for the role but no offer was made by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. The said in February that the film would shoot this year if the perfect actor could be found.
Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock is a World War II soldier who first appeared in comics in 1959. His series went on to be DC’s longest running war comic, finishing it’s run in 1988. If Farrell signs on he would play the tough-as-nails leader of Easy Company, the combat unit fighting Nazi forces in Europe.
The film will be written by Guadagnino regular screenwriter, Justin Kuritzkes.
