Legendary are working with Amazon MGM Studios to adapt Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim into a series for Amazon’s Prime Video.
The show will be written and executive produced by Eric Heisserer through his Chronology banner. Heisserer is known for Netflix fantasy series Shadow and Bone and writing Arrival for Denis Villeneuve which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Del Toro’s original film was released in 2013. Starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman, the story revolved around a war between humans, driving mech suits, and kaiju who were invading through a rift.
Steve S. DeKnight wrote and directed a sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, in 2018 and this was followed an animated series, Pacific Rim: The Black, in 2021.
Legendary Television also currently produce the kaiju series Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters for Apple TV+.
