Sony’s Screen Gems is developing an update of their late ’90s slasher Urban Legend. The film will be produced by Gary Dauberman, who wrote this week’s Until Dawn, from a script by Shanrah Wakefield.

Neal Moritz, who produced the original, is also in talks to return.

The original, which featured a group of students being killed off by urban legends, starred Jared Leto, Joshua Jackson, Alicia Witt, Michael Rosenbaum, Rebecca Gayheart, and Tara Reid was a minor success in the wake of hits like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. It was popular enough to get two sequels.

No plot details have been released but it has been reported that the film will be an examination of what an urban legend looks like in a post-digital world.

Gary Dauberman has had success with horror over the last decade, working on franchises like It, Annabelle, and The Nun.
