Jon Watts, the director of the first three Tom Holland Spider-Man films, will take charge of the first film in the new Simon Kinberg written trilogy which is rumoured to be Episode X.
Jon Watts isn’t new to the Star Wars Universe, having co-created Skeleton Crew.
Simon Kinberg’s trilogy has been in development since 2024 and will be a continuation of the Skywalker saga that started in 1977. Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker, last seen in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, will have a role in the film.
The film has yet to get an official green light from Disney but is thought be be ready to go into production next year.
The next Star Wars film to be released is Starfighter which is due next May in time for the franchise’s fiftieth anniversary. The film stars Ryan Gosling but there has been no indiction that he will carry over to the new trilogy.
