2024 was a year that saw the Big Two, Marvel and DC, hit pause on their output and look to reset their cinematic universes. Both studios only put out one film with Marvel Studios releaseing the fan-favourite Deadpool & Wolverine and DC dropping a stinker with the fan-hated Joker: Folie à Deux. Sony took advantage of this gap in the market and released three films as part of their own Marvel universe, based off of Spider-Man characters, but totally shit the bed by making absolute rubbish and killing off any goodwill they had from the first Venom film. The year also saw two independent characters, Hellboy and The Crow, make their return to the big screen.
