Stephen King’s rabid dog horror, Cujo, is getting a new film adaptation from Netflix. Horror producer Roy Lee is putting the project together and the hunt for a writer is on.
King’s novel was published in 1981 and the original adaptation was released in 1983. Starring Dee Wallace, it was the story of a mother desperate to protect her son from a formerly friendly 200-pound St. Bernard that has been bitten by a rabid bat. Turned mad by the disease, Cujo becomes a ferocious, calculating hound that leaves a trail of bodies. Mom and her son get stuck in her small car that won’t start, and their choices are to battle it out with the rabid oversized hound or risk heatstroke in a hot car.
King is hot at the box office again with The Monkey being the highest grossing horror of the year so fat. The author also has a new adaptation of The Running Man and the It prequel series, Welcome To Derry, coming out this year.
