Lionsgate have confirmed the rumour that ‘Saw XI’ was in trouble and removed it from it’s 26th September release date. The studio have moved another horror sequel, The Strangers: Chapter 2, into the vacant slot.

Lionsgate and the producers of the Saw franchise have suffered the dreaded creative difference and can’t agree on the direction for the next film. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan had turned in a script over a year ago and Saw X helmer, Kevin Greutert, was attached but there had been no movement on the production.

The Strangers: Chapter 1, a reimagining of the 2008 film, was a modest success for the studio last year. The second film, which was shot back-to-back with the first and is the middle chapter of a trilogy, sees Renny Harlin return as director with Madelaine Petsch starring once again.
