Paramount are moving forward with an adaptation of the hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series The Last Ronin.

The Last Ronin was a 5 issues series, written by Turtles creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird with Tom Waltz and art by Esau and Isaac Escorza, Ben Bishop, and Eastman, that followed the last surviving Turtle after the other three and Splinter had been murdered by Shredder’s grandson. It was a revenge tale with a mystery surrounding the identity of the Last Ronin as they wielded the weapons of all the Turtles.

The film will be produced by former DC Films head Walter Hamada through his 18hz production company, a horror focused label, and is set to be R-rated with a large body count. Tyler Burton Smith, who wrote the upcoming Boy Kill World and the 2019 Child’s Play remake, is on scripting duties.

Last year Paramount had success, both critical and commercially, with family friendly animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem which is also getting a sequel and an animated series.
