The climax of the DC FanDome event saw the unveiling of our first look at director Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’. According to Reeves the film was only 25% complete when the production was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic but they have still been able to cut together a substantial teaser.
We get our first look at Robert Pattinson as the new cinematic version of Batman/Bruce Wayne and we also see Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler and Commissioner Gordon.
Matt Reeves was on hand before the trailer to stress that this isn’t another origin story and will lean heavily into the detective side of the Batman character. He referred to the story as ‘Year Two’ and cited ‘Chinatown’ and ‘The French Connection’ as influences alongside the late Darwyn Cooke’s ‘Batman: Ego’ comic.
The film also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as D.A. Gil Colson, and Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Real.
‘The Batman’ plans to open in cinemas on 1st October 2021.
