‘The Suicide Squad’ is not due in cinemas until August next year but that hasn’t stopped HBO Max greenlighting a spin-off show. ‘Peacemaker’ will be eight episodes starring John Cena and written, produced, and partly directed by James Gunn.
The series will be an action comedy in Gunn’s style and is the first time that Cena has lead a TV show. The plot is under wraps part apart from that it will be an origin to the Peacemaker. The character has been around since 1966 and was originally owned by Charlton Comics until that company’s characters were acquired by DC Comics in the 1980’s.
The character is best known for being the inspiration for the Comedian in ‘The Watchmen’.
“‘Peacemaker’ is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag. I’m excited to expand ‘The Suicide Squad’ and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”

This will be the third DCEU spin-off series going to HBO following on from an untitled Amazons show (Wonder Woman) and Gotham PD (The Batman).
The plan is to shoot the show early next year before Gunn turns his attention to ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3’.
