Former Bond Pierce Brosnan has been cast as Doctor Fate in the upcoming ‘Black Adam’. He will star alongside Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.
Throughout the publishing history of DC Comics there have been numerous characters to hold the name of Doctor Fate but Brosnan will be playing Kent Nelson, an archeologist who discovers the Helmet of Nabu that teaches him to command magic. Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate, created by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman, is one of DC’s oldest characters, having first appeared in 1940’s More Fun Comics #5. The character is the most powerful magic user in the DC Universe and is essentially their equivalent of Marvel’s Dr. Strange.
Fate was a founding member of the JSA, the original superhero team, and they are going to be central to ‘Black Adam’. The character has the potential for multiple appearance in the future.
Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film which is just starting production.
