Destin Daniel Cretton has officially signed on to write and direct the sequel to ‘Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings’. As part of the deal, he will also be developing a MCU series for Marvel Studios and Disney+.
‘Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings’, which Cretton also wrote and directed, starred Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung, and went on to earn $432 at the worldwide box office. Simu Liu and Awkwafina are expected to return for the sequel.
Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started
Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios
There is no word on where the sequel may go or what the focus of the series may be but the end of the original film set the physical ten rings up as having a wider importance in the MCU and showed the Ten Rings organisation to still be operating under the command of Xu Xialing, Shang-Chi’s sister.
