It looks like a ‘Thunderbolts’ film will become a reality sooner rather than later as Marvel Studios have attached a director and writer. Jake Schreier (‘Robert & Frank’) will helm the film which will be written by Eric Pearson (‘Black Widow’).
The plot has been kept under wraps but the comic book concept of ‘Thunderbolts’ is similar to DC’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ with a team of villains doing missions for the government. At the moment it is not known which characters are involved but there have been a number in recent films and series that would fit the profile such as Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, The Abomination, and US Agent.
The team takes it’s name from General ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, who has been played by William Hurt in the MCU, but the actor sadly died earlier this year. Whether Marvel recast or take it in a different direction has not been confirmed.
No release date has been set.
