Now that the rumoured Damon Lindelof written ‘Star Wars’ film is being openly talked about, with Sharmeen Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy being named as director, more information is starting to leak out.
The film will is being co-written by Justin Britt-Gibson, who worked on Guillermo del Toro’s vampire drama, ‘The Strain’, as executive story editor and wrote episodes of Starz’s ‘The Counterpart’.
Britt-Gibson came out of a writers room was set up after this years Star Wars Celebration. The two week session included people such as Patrick Somerville, who created ‘Station Eleven’ and worked on ‘The Leftovers’ with Lindelof; Rayna McClendon, a consulting producer on ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and writer on the upcoming ‘Willow’; and Andy Greenwald, the creator of the 2019 Rosario Dawson crime drama ‘Briarpatch’.
It is also thought thta George Lucas acolyte, Dave Filoni, was in attendance to help break the story.
The film is being designed as a standalone story with the potential to carry on if successful and will be set in the post ‘The Rise Of Skywalker’ era. This opens the door to actors from the sequel trilogy to reprise their roles.
This film looks to be the next theatrical Star Wars release with there being no news on the fate of Taika Waititi’s, Kevin Feige’, or Patty Jenkins’ announced films. Ryan Johnson is also still talking about his trilogy but due to his ‘Knives Out’ commitments that is years away if ever.
The possible release date for the project looks likely to be Christmas 2025.
