In a move to utilise titles owned by MGM, who they recently bought, Amazon are moving forward on a TV series based around ‘The Magnificent Seven’. The show will written by Nic Pizzolatto (‘True Detective’) who also wrote the 2016 remake starring Denzel Washington.
Pizzolatto did not sell this project to Amazon as ‘The Magnificent Seven’ but instead as an epic Western to revival Paramount’s ‘Yellowstone’ franchise where larger-than-life characters rob, con and outsmart each other. It focused on a former outlaw who must reckon with a threat from his past in order to keep the life and family he has worked so hard to build. He sets out on an epic journey that unites a formidable gang of indelible figures to face an even greater danger, in an epic saga of adventure and romance that forces this former criminal to become the hero he’s been pretending to be.
The original pitch does not sound to far away from the ‘Seven’ concept and it was in conversations with the studio that it was decided that Pizzalatto’s show would be repurposed with the familiar title.
The show has been fast tracked as an Amazon Studios Original but no production dates have been announced.
