Marvel Studios’ current issues around Jonathan Majors’ Kang and their spluttering multiverse saga continue with Destin Daniel Cretton is no longer attached to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Cretton had been officially attached to the project for over a year.

It is also rumoured that Jeff Loveness is also no longer writing the film and that the studio is looking to pivot away from the Kang character due to Majors’ legal issues.

Cretton’s departure is thought to be amicable with the pushing back of The Kang Dynasty’s release date to 1st May 2026 being one of the main reasons. The director will carry on working with Marvel and will now focus on developing a Shang-Chi sequel and completing his Wonder Man series that halted production during the strikes.
