French filmmaker Luc Besson is going to direct a new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The new film will focus on the titular character’s early life and his relationship to his wife. In Stoker’s original novel, it was the death of his wife that drove Dracula to become a vampire.

The film will be titled Dracula – A Love Tale.

This will be a big-budget project and star Caleb Landry-Jone, who was the lead in Besson’s previous film Dogman, as the legendary Vampire. Christoph Waltz is also attached to the film in an unknown role.

The film is aiming to film this year with talks underway with other name actors to film out the cast.

  1. If Besson is telling the story of Dracula’s early life, his film is not a “new adaptation” of Stoker’s novel, since the book tells us nothing about the Count’s earlier years. Plus, Stoker’s novel nowhere even suggests that Dracula’s wife’s death led to him becoming a vampire? Ever heard of the Scholomance?
