Stephen King’s Carrie is being adapted again, this time as series for Amazon’s Prime Video.
The show is being developed by Mike Flanagan, a regular King adaptor, who will showrunner and executive producing with Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures.
Flanagan’s previous King adaptation include Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Games, with his most recent, The Life Of Chuck, currently on the festival circuit. He also has the rights to King’s Dark Tower novels. Flanagan is also no stranger to television, having made a number of series for Netflix.
Amazon MGM Studios describes the project as a “bold and timely reimagining” of the story, which centres on high schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion under the thumb of a domineering mother. After her father’s sudden death, Carrie begins attending a public high school, where she’s the victim of bullying, while discovering telekinetic powers.
So far, there have been four Carrie films, with the most famous being Brian De Palma’s 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

It has been way overdone. I would much rather see a new story!

We all rightfully so have our issues with consistent remakes. The original Carrie has always been quite enough for me. And as far as the drama of telekinesis is concerned, nowadays I prefer the genre that doesn’t paint it as ultimately dangerous, like Phenomenon which interestingly starred John Travolta (as opposed to his role in Carrie) as a good guy with telekinesis. Some horror films were good for their times but wouldn’t or shouldn’t be made today.

I can’t wait for the next season of Stranger Things. My favorite telekinesis-wielding heroine is 11 !
