Milla Jovovich To Star In Final Romero ‘Living Dead’

Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich will lead Twilight Of The Dead, the final film in George A. Romero’s zombie series. The film will be directed by Brad Anderson.

Romero wrote a treatment for the film before his death in 2017 and his estate, alongside L.A.-based financier-producer Roundtable, has put the project together.

Set on a tropical island, Twilight Of The Dead will “delve into the dark nature of humanity from the perspective of the last humans on Earth who are caught between factions of the undead.”

I see this film in the same way as successful post-apocalyptic thrillers such as I Am Legend, A Quiet PlaceThe Road and The Last of Us — genre stories that are as emotional as they are intense. When I first read Twilight of The Dead, I teared up at the end. Which is weird for a film of this type. But it has that kind of pull, that combo of horror and heartbreak that I love.

It is with great pleasure to work with my partners at Roundtable to finally get the last of George A. Romero’s The Dead canon out to the fans. It’s what the fans have longed for, and with Brad Anderson at the helm it will be sensational.

Twilight Of The Dead will mark the official end to the franchise which began with 1968’s Night Of The Living Dead. That film was followed by 1978’s Dawn Of The Dead, 1985’s Day Of The Dead, 2005’s Land Of The Dead, 2007’s Diary Of The Dead and 2009’s Survival Of The Dead as well as various spinoffs and remakes.

  1. Finally bringing an end and hopefully a very successful end to the long-enduring Living Dead franchise is a daunting task. With the lovely and talented Milla Jovovich making her contribution, given her success with such films from The Fifth Element and Resident Evil to The Fourth Kind, it should be promising. 🧟
