In an interview with Collider Alan Tudyk, the actor who portrayed the droid K-2SO in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, revealed his character will not be appearing in the first season of ‘Andor’.
They’re shooting it right now, I’m not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there… I’m going to be in the show. It’s just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn’t involve K-2SO until later on… I can’t be too specific, but I can definitely say that I’m not going to be in the first season.Alan Tudyk/Collider
There two interesting things coming from this quote. Firstly, when the series was originally announced it was stated that it would feature K-2 alongside Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) indicating that plans for the character have clearly changed. Secondly, up until now the show was expected to only be a single season.
The first meeting of Cassian and K-2SO has already been depicted in the ‘Rogue One: Cassian And K-2SO Special’ comic so maybe this will be the focus of the second season. With the show having the title ‘Andor’ the focus is going to be heavily on Cassian and that is most likely why K-2 was removed from the first season.
The show is currently in production and will be released sometime next year.
