Top 5 Things In The ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Teaser That Made Us Say “Hello There”

There was a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out “Hello there” and were suddenly silenced in awe of the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ trailer.

After months, if not years, of waiting we finally got a look at Kenobi’s wilderness years. While the trailer didn’t deliver much insight into what the series’ plot may be it contained some fantastic imagery and had a great score. Here are the top five thongs from the trailer that made us sit up and pay attention.

5. This series will do for ‘Rebels’ what ‘The Mandalorian’ did for ‘The Clone Wars’

‘The Mandalorian’, the first live-action Star Wars television show, drew a lot of its inspiration from ‘The Clone Wars’ animated series. The introduction of characters like Ahsoka and Bo-Katan, as played by Rosario Dawson and Katee Sackhoff, has directed audiences back to the series that they originated from.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ looks like it is set up to do the same thing for ‘Rebels’ by prominently featuring the Inquisitors. These Imperial Jedi hunters were first introduced into modern Star Wars canon via ‘Rebels’ and if they catch the viewers imagination here it will create a whole new audience for their original appearances.

4. Obi-Wan is going to get uncivilised

If Obi-Wan has to stay hidden from the Inquisitors it means that he won’t be able to use his lightsaber. We’ve seen him briefly use a blaster in ‘Revenge Of The Sith’ but it looks like it may be his weapon of choice for large parts of this series. We see a brief shot of him in a gun fight in the trailer but there is also the above image of someone facing down an Inquisitor with a blaster. There has been much speculation about who this figure is but it is most likely Kenobi not wanting to out himself to the hunters. If he is sparing in his use of his signature weapon then it will make the moment he draws it for his showdown with Vader, which we know is coming, all the more special.

3. Another hero hidden in plain sight?

One moment that stands out in the trailer for seeming out of place is the shot of an armoured backside and a hand holding what looks like a hammer. At first glance you could assume that this is just a regular stormtrooper but this could be the reveal of another ‘Clone Wars’ character coming to live-action.

Upon closer examination you can see that this is older, worn armour and the indents on the back of the legs match up with those on clone armour. You can also see patches of blue, the colour of the 501st, in the grooves and on the edges. Could this be Captain Rex? Is this what Temuera Morrison was filming while he had two episodes off from ‘The Book Of Boba Fett’. There is definitely a reason for this shot being in the trailer.

2. Kenobi won’t be the only Jedi in the series

The trailer has a shot of what looks like an Inquisitor touching a Jedi symbol that’s been carved into wall. Could this symbol be used to guide surviving Jedi to safe havens similar to how the Mandalorian symbol is used in ‘The Mandalorian’? Is there a hidden network trying to rebuild the Jedi order and is this what pulls Obi-Wan out of hiding? It’s more than likely that there will be other Jedi in the show and it is their actions that force Kenobi to reveal himself.

1. Luke!

Lucasfilm’s normal tight-lipped approach to marketing has been relaxed for this show. While still much of it is a secret, they have already revealed more than normal. Straight of the bat, when they announced the show they told us it would end with a duel between Kenobi and Vader. Now the Inquisitor are all over the trailer with appearances from the Grand Inquisitor, three others, and their base.

But the big reveal, and the one that has the most emotional impact, is young Luke Skywalker. There had been rumours that we would see him and it makes storytelling sense for him to be featured. Normally Lucasfilm would tease this reveal out but here he is, looking just like his father at the same age, in the first seconds of the first trailer. We know that this isn’t his story and he won’t play a large role but knowing he will be there and we no longer have to debate it is like a Star Wars comfort blanket and we can now focus purely on this being Kenobi’s story.
