HBO Max are continuing their trend of spinning off their movie franchises into streaming series by turning their attention to ‘Sherlock Holmes’.
Robert Downey Jr., who starred in the 2009 ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and its 2011 sequel ‘A Game Of Shadows’, will act as producer alongside Lionel Wigram, who received a story credit on the first film and produced both.
The two shows will be based around characters that are going to be introduced in a third Downey Jr. lead film. That film, which will see Dexter Fletcher take over directing duties from Guy Ritchie, was originally due out in 2020 but was a pushed to December 2021 and has yet to materialise but with this news an announcement must be due.
It is unknown if Downey Jr. is planning to reprise his role in the series.
HBO Max have already spun ‘Peacemaker’ out of ‘The Suicide Squad, are planning two series based on ‘The Batman’, have plans for ‘Dune’ and ‘It’, and there has been a long running rumour that there is something coming based on ‘Harry Potter’.
