Seventeen years after the original film came out, ‘Constantine’ is getting a sequel with Keanu Reeves returning to star as the DC Comics exorcist and Francis Lawrence back behind the camera. Akiva Goldsman is writing and will produce alongside J.J. Abrams.
Whether it will be part of the DCEU or a stand alone project like ‘Joker’ is unclear but this becomes only the second DC film, alongside the ‘Joker’ sequel, to get the go head under the new DC Films regime.
A Constantine show had been set up at HBO Max by J.J. Abrams but the has been no solid news on the project. Matt Ryan had played the character for the best part of a decade before that and recently a gender bent version of Constantine appeared in ‘The Sandman’.
The original film was a modest success at the time of its release and has become a cult classic over the years.
