It has been rumoured for months that Damon Lindelof has been secretly writing a ‘Star Wars’ film for Lucasfilm. Deadline are now reporting that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has joined the project as director.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy most recently directed several episodes of ‘Ms. Marvel’ for Marvel Studios but made her name directing her Oscar-winning documentary shorts ‘Saving Face’ and ‘A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness’.
Lindelof is co-writing the project, though it is unknown at this time who his writing partner might be. Bring in a director during the writing stage indicates that Lucasfilm are looking to avoid the dreaded creative differences, that have plagued them during the Disney era, later down the line . As the film is still in the writing stage it is likely that production is some way off.
It is unknown what the story for the film will be and Lucasfilm have made no comment but have recently made it clear that they are only interested in directors that are prepared to invest numerous years to Star Wars.
