Author F. Paul Wilson has announced via Twitter that the rights to his novel, ‘The Keep’, have been aquired by Greg Nicotero. The Nazis versus vampires story was previously adapted unsuccessfully by Michael Mann in 1983.
Nicotero made his name in special makeup effects before becoming a major player on ‘The Walking Dead’ and creating Shudder’s ‘Creepshow’ reboot.

Since the original version of the film was Chopped To Pieces by the studio, making a better adaption shouldn’t be difficult. Just as long as they manage to keep the only thing about the original that was epic, some of the set piece design. I’m not holding my breath though. I can’t imagine any studio forking over the amount of cash it would take to preserve the atmosphere of the idea betting on a horror movie no one has ever heard of, let alone seen.
