James Mangold is the first director to become attached to a DC Studios project. The ‘Logan’ helmer is in talks for ‘Swamp Thing’, a supernatural horror film that will come towards the end of the DCU’s first chapter.

Mangold is said to be a big fan of Swamp Thing and after the announcement of the DC slate of films he tweeted a classic picture of the character which was then retweeted by James Gunn.

Swamp Thing is one on the darker DC characters. Created in 1971 by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, the character hit its peak in the 80s when Alan Moore took it over and changed its creative direction in what was one of the founding books of DC’s Vertigo imprint, a line of books aimed at mature readers. In recent years Swamp Thing has been overshadowed by John Constantine, DC’s current premier supernatural character, who started out in the background of the ‘Swamp Thing’ book.

There has already been two Swamp Thing films, the first directed by Wes Craven in 1982, live action and animated shows in the 90s and a short lived show on the equally short lived DC streaming service in 2019.
