Horror specialist David Bruckner has been confirmed as the director of Smile 3, the next instalment in Paramount’s successful supernatural franchise.

Bruckner, best known for the 2022 Hellraiser reboot as well as The Night House and The Ritual, will take the reins from Parker Finn, who created, wrote and directed the first two films. Finn developed and pitched the framework for the third movie and will remain involved as a producer. Jonathan Fass is set to executive produce, while Nick Antosca will pen the screenplay.

The original Smile (2022) emerged as the highest-grossing original horror film of that year, and the franchise as a whole has taken more than $350 million worldwide. Smile 2 followed in 2024.

Outside Smile 3, Bruckner is attached to direct Universal’s The Caretaker, an adaptation of Marcus Kliewer’s novel starring Sydney Sweeney, and the A24 horror Mice. He is also writing and developing a remake of The Blob.

Finn, who signed a first-look deal with Paramount in 2023, is currently preparing the studio’s remake of Possession, starring Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley, which is scheduled for release on 11th June 2027.
