During Warners’ presentation at CinemaCon they announced the cast for Andy Serkis’ Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum.

Fifty Shades Of Grey star Jamie Dornan will play Aragorn, chief of the Northern Dúnedain Rangers, replacing Viggo Mortensen from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Leo Woodall (Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy), who was heavily rumoured to take on the role of Aragorn, will play Halvard, another of the Dúnedain.

Lee Pace will reprise his role as Thranduil the elf from The Hobbit trilogy.

Serkis will once again play Gollum as well as directing.

Across two trilogies, a mark of a Middle-earth film, has always been the formidable array of talent brought to bear in every role. The Hunt for Gollum continues in that tradition, and I am delighted to announce the return of two of Middle-earth’s most beloved performers, alongside some exceptionally talented new additions to Tolkien’s world.

The new film will bridge the two existing trilogies with Aragorn and Gandalf searching for Gollum to learn more information about Bilbo’s ring.

The cast will also include Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood returning as Gandalf and Frodo with Kate Winslet joining in an unspecified role.

Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum will be released on 17th December, 2027.
