Green To Direct ‘The Exorcist’ Sequel?

David Gordon Green revitalised the ‘Halloween’ franchise in 2018 and is in the process of making two follow-ups. Now it is being reported that Blumhouse want him to repeat the trick with ‘The Exorcist’.

Whether this will be a remake, a sequel, or a direct sequel that ignore previous works is unclear. ‘The Exorcist’ was a massive hit at the time and was the highest grossing R- rated horror film for decades until ‘IT’ in 2017. The original film had two sequels and a prequel with the last two having various versions due to troubled productions. Only ‘Exorcist 3’, directed by William Peter Blatty who wrote the original book, received positive reviews.

William Friedkin, the controversial director of the first film, has denied any involvement with the new project. On production details have been released.
