For years a remake of 1981’s ‘Escape From New York’ has been pitched around Hollywood with Gerard Butler attached to star. Now GiantFreakinRobot are reporting that this has been scrapped in favour of making a legacy sequel with Kurt Russell reprising his role of Snake Plissken.
The film will be overseen by Radio Silence, which consists of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella. The trio are currently in control of the Scream franchise and ‘Scream 2022’ showed they have an understanding of what is required when working with legacy IP.
If the project does come together it will be the third time that Russell has played Plissken and the first time since 1996’s ‘Escape From L.A.’. Both previous films were directed by John Carpenter.
