Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman and writer Josh Friedman are working on a new Planet Of The Apes film for 20th Century Studios. Shakman will also produce along with franchise producers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
The new film is said to be an original story set in the Apes world and not a continuation of 2024’s Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes which was also written by Friedman.
The Planet Of The Apes franchise began in 1968 with the original Charlton Heston film and has gone on to take more than $1.7 billion in worldwide box office.
Shakman made his name with Marvel Studios’ WandaVision. He also directed the pilot for Apple’s Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Friedman co-wrote Avatar: The Way Of Water and Avatar: Fire And Ash.
